Try It Tuesday: Okra

The only okra I've had is at Lambert's: Home of the Throwed Rolls. It's fried and even then I dipped it in ketchup. Since it's late summer, the farmer's market is busting with okra. I thought Kenny liked it from Lamberts, so I thought it was a good choice for Try it Tuesday. Wrong. He doesn't like it- I was informed upon bringing home a pound of the green things that look like flowers when sliced. Regardless, I made a recipe from Homesick Texan. Bacon and okra baked in the oven. It tasted pretty good, as long as there was a crumbled piece of bacon on the fork. Jim Gaffigan is right about bacon being so good, it is put with other foods to make them better. Kenny even tried it after about a minute of pleading. I put 2 bits of bacon on his bite. :)

I've been making my okra just sliced, with olive oil, salt and pepper, roasted in the oven at 350 for 15 minutes and it's kind of amazing. and probably all the more so with bacon.
